Best Areas to Stay Near Wright-Patterson AFB

Whether you're here on TDY orders, PCSing in, or visiting a student at one of the base schools, where you stay matters more than it seems. A twenty-minute commute difference adds up fast over a multi-week stay. Here's how the areas around Wright-Patterson actually compare.

Riverside. This is the closest option to the base, and for a lot of TDY travelers it's the obvious choice — some streets put you within ten minutes of the gate. It's a quieter, mostly residential area without a lot of nightlife, which is usually exactly what people on a work trip want.

Fairborn. Just west of the base and popular with both military families and Wright State students, Fairborn has more restaurants and everyday errands within walking or short driving distance than Riverside does. Commute times to most gates run 10–15 minutes.

Beavercreek. A bit further out but worth it if you want more shopping and dining, including The Greene Town Center. Commutes run closer to 20–25 minutes depending on the gate, but the tradeoff is a wider choice of restaurants and grocery options for longer stays.

What to look for in an extended-stay rental. For anything longer than a week or two, a full kitchen and in-unit laundry stop being nice-to-haves and start being the difference between a comfortable stay and a miserable one. We manage several properties in the Riverside and greater WPAFB corridor built specifically around that kind of stay — reach out if you want a recommendation based on your gate and timeline.
